Unlike Japanese CV forms, there is no set format for an English CV. Even if the applicant possessed exactly the same skills and career history, depending on the writer, it would give a completely different impression to the reader. Therefore, this could be considered as an advantage and successful CV writing may depend on the usage of wording and expressions, clearly stating the points. In English CVs, it is important to express how much you would be able to contribute to the firm and how you are best suited to the position applied for.
There is no difference and both are written in English.
・(British English):Curriculum Vitae(CV)
・(American English):Resume
The first step to a successful career starts with the CV. The fact to remember is that the reader will be reading hundreds and thousands of CVs. Avoid simply listing your career history and skills; it is vital to write clearly and concisely.
(1) Size of paper: Standard CV should be written on A4 sized paper. Make sure to use good quality paper when sending the CV.
(2) The font should be simple and clear (for example; Arial, Times New Roman, etc.) and the layout should be categorized clearly.
(3) Check the spelling and grammar twice; we recommend you to have the document proofread and then finally, check for the spelling again.
We recommend you to state the qualifications which have been gained, however you may also state any qualifications which you are working towards; if you wish to show you are working/studying towards a qualification. In addition, if the result are not available, write the date when they will be released.
Write about your strengths, character and personality in 3 to 4 points. The points can be punctuality or commitment to work for example.
If your position changed through internal transfers, write out the new responsibilities, name of the new post and time period. If you have previously worked in a different firm, it would be best to state the type of business, number of employees, sales and so on.
To give a concise, active impression, use verbs from the start.
It is vital to have the grammar and spellings perfect. Make sure to check several times before sending the documents out.
